New Medicines Service

The New Medicines Service is designed to help you get the most out of your newly
prescribed medication. Our team are offering a stepwise approach towards helping you
understand your new medication, which in turn will help you understand and manage your

Patients with the any of the following conditions that have been prescribed new medicines
are current eligible:
• Asthma
• Respiratory conditions (bronchitis, emphysema)
• Type 2 Diabetes
• High Blood Pressure
• Conditions where medicines are used to control blood clots

The initial step will require you to complete a consent form. The pharmacist will then ask
you to come into store one-two weeks after receiving the new medicines for a discussion
on how you are getting on with your treatment. If you prefer, this may be done over the

One-two weeks after the the discussion, the pharmacist will arrange a follow-up
conversation with you to confirm you are getting on well. Any problems at this point will be
investigated with the prescriber (GP or hospital doctor) and advice will be offered.
